The colours and brush stroke marks create a wonderful array of busyness within the image, particularly in the sky and a combination of blues, purples, pinks and greys show how the night is fast approaching.
As the Gadgie makes his way down the path the industrialisation of the image shows the area in which the man walks. Millar keep his working class ethos close to his chest and allows his viewer into a slice of what it was like to grow up in his world.
A super coloured image by Alexander Millar, a somewhat visually more cherry limited edition image of bygone Northern Britain - a Gadgie travelling to work and seeing the vista of the river and the docks. In the background we have the mills and the work houses but somehow there is a beauty to it all.
'Big River' is a new piece from the Spring 2011 range and continues Millar's successful move to mostly 'on canvas board' pieces that have a lovely finish to them. The giclee printing process suits perfectly the format of on board and gives the illusion that the piece is fresh out of the artist studio. The piece will require framing and optional border. (called a 'slip')
