This charming piece was inspired by a fan and collector of Alexander Millar's art.
Millar is perhaps best known for painting northern scenes, therefore was questioned by this particular collector as to whether he would ever consider painting London. This question was followed up by a personal story and photos of the iconic Battersea Power Station near to where he was born and raised.
From these old photographs Millar was totally inspired to create this wonderfully atmospheric piece, capturing the strong sunlight reflecting off of the Thames just before a heavy rainfall. Millar later found out that the power station was referred to as 'The Cathedral Of The Working Man', and so the title for this piece was born.
