If you know anything about Millar, you will know that a fond childhood memory for him was accompanying his Dad to British Rail where he would watch him at work. He also spent many happy afternoons on the station platforms quietly observing passers by wondering amongst the atmospheric steam.
It is for this reason that trains (or in this case train tracks) feature quite often in his charming works. Millar explains how this scene reminds him of his Dad treking home after a long day of hard grafting; the setting sun creating a effervescent glow not only in the air bu from the surface of the slick tracks too.
