As the gadgie struggles through the rain to push his bicycle Millar creates a narrative with his character, despite being portrayed with his back towards the audience. Millar allows the older gentleman to appear as though he is talking away from the spectator into the vacant white space of the image. Spatial relation between the character and his setting is vital for this piece to work and Millar draws he character with no particular background fuss to distract us from the simplicity of subject matter.
This is certainly a recognizable piece as it features the elderly gentleman who appears in several of Millar's works and truly makes for a fantastic addition for the current collection.
