In this humorous scene, one of Alexander's favourite subjects the old 'Gadgie' is mimicking the huge 'Angel Of The North' sculpture, a contemporary installation located in Gateshead, England by Antony Gormley.
The only prop needed is his ladder and hey presto, a sight is created that even his trusted dog is in awe of!
As you can see, this limited edition became such a favourite with Millar’s fans, it was created as a limited edition: on paper print, resin sculpture, bronze and finally a stainless steel sculpture, all long since sold out!
Creating his own version of the 'Angel Of The North,' sculpture, Alexander allows for his subject to carry a horizontal ladder across his back, whilst in his familiar clothes, making this piece of art accessible and reaching out to those admirers of the elder working class 'gadgies.'
The size of this sculpture makes it a wonderful stand out piece but will not overtake the room - perfect for your home!
A fantastic new Bronze edition of ‘The Angel’ by Alexander.
The 'gadgie' appears transfixed, looking out over the mighty city of Gateshead and its townsfolk, rich in culture and diversity.
The figure stands silently on the podium, gracefully holding his form, even though the weight on the ladder represents all the hardships in life this northern gadgie has faced & overcome, with dignity.
No man can pass judgement on this 'gadgie' or his lifelong struggles to find work & provide food on the table for his loving family. His trusted ladder is his means to do so: cleaning windows fixing roofs or the odd job where he can find them.
In any case he will wear he his jacket and coat and carry himself with a sense of pride.
This is the 4th time Alexander Millar has created an artistic interpretation of the 'Angel Of The North' sculpture, an installation located in Gateshead, UK, and in real life is some twenty metres tall!
Originally appearing as a resin sculpture, then a giclee on paper print, then a bronze, this version is a stainless steel limited edition sculpture and is sure to be just as popular.
The old gadgie character appears to be on his window cleaning round, either that or about to spy in some 'Mrs.'s' bedroom! This stainless steel sculpture has been lovingly recreated by Alexander with the gentlest of touches and we can see in very fine detail the: character, clothes, body and even his facial expression.
I am amazed as to how even the ladder has been fashioned to appear aged and worn. This limited edition is highly collectable sculpture would make a centre piece for any room in the house; a sell out is expected so do order early!
