Amy is an up and coming contemporary artist, specialising in the cheekier style of Wildlife art which continues to gain popularity in UK galleries and beyond.
Immediately one thinks of her art being in a similar style to her fellow artists: Paul James, Steve Tandy, Caroline Shotton and Jennifer Hogwood - the latter two specialising in humorous cows and Paul & Steve known for painting animals in ‘unusual’ backdrops!
Amy always had her hand in Art & Design courses throughout her schooling, along with her other regular studies and her passion was always textiles.
**Short movie of 'Timmy Toucan - Original' painting:
By the time she was 18, she was about to choose an English Literature degree but she changed course (quite literally!) to study a Foundation level in art and then went onto Fashion at university.
She spent some in Sweden after graduating University in 2011, designing costumes for various performers in festivals & later decided she would embark on a career as a professional artist in 2017 and success has followed her into her new career.
The process of textiles and costume design, she sees as akin to the painting process: making designs, creating personas and using bold colours to bring a personality to life, much like the end result of her limited editions and original art - the animals are very much alive to us, the viewer!
Obviously humour is a key aspect of the animals she chooses to paint but she also manages to capture both their grace and innocence; like most contemporary Wildlife artists, she reminds us of our responsibility to care for animals and their environments.
Did you know that the artists loves using Farrow and Ball paints for her lush backgrounds? As she feels the luxurious strong colours gives the animals a super contrast against the single toned canvas backgrounds & the effect is wonderful.
