Barry Hilton is an artist with a lifetime of ❤️ painting & experience which blends effortlessly into his beautiful and heartfelt limited edition prints & original compositions.
He first came to my attention in the 2000s when we hung his beautiful originals in our gallery and featuring mysterious scenes of tall ships coming into harbour, covered with fog or perhaps the mists of early morning! But always allowing you the viewer to ‘set the scene’ with your imagination.
They reminded me of a time when pirates and buccaneers would roam the ports and harbours of the world. The series of three 'Galleons' originals, is just one example that springs to mind & notice Barry's skills at using pleasing muted blue-greys and yellow-greens as background colours, often alluding to the time of day but always building the atmosphere of the scene,
The artist has been signed with at least two (possibly more) UK Art Publishing houses over time - distributing initially his original art to galleries & then later his limited editions on canvas board - such is the continued demand for his artwork.
Barry was born in 1941 in Manchester and always had passion for painting and drawing from an early age. His Further studies saw him embark on a Ceramics and Tableware design degree in which he attained a First Class B.A.(hons).
Come 1979, Hilton had decided to work as a professional artist and his confidence grew as he moved down to Cornwall and began to work alongside other artists who were actively creating and this process and period of his life still influences the work he creates today.
Hilton's favoured subjects are of land and seascapes. These are layered to create an in depth and intensified scenic view to which form his expressive emotions and create the atmospheric pieces. The smoothness of the overall finish allows for an endearing piece which contrasts the two halves of the pictorial space, the smooth skies to the textured land.
