In duality, Ben’s profile and artistic ability have continued to rise over the past 15 years and he has enjoyed continuous success in galleries here and overseas, including four major distribution deals - Demontfort & Buckingham Fine art come to mind.
As of 2023, he works from a shared studio space & gallery in Guildford, Surrey.
Initially recognised for his take on traditional English landscapes, including an award winning series with Hot Air Balloons, he has proved equally as skilled with modern figurative art; The 'Ben Payne - Colourful Dancers Series' is the best recent example of this, each a tour de force in evocative female forms.
Although I personally think of Ben as a modern oil painter, he continues to experiment with other mediums & techniques but always with aesthetically pleasing results.
Producing images that allow one to escape, daydream and hope is something that Ben creates best. His art is uplifting and showcases the completely self-taught artist's creative mind.
Born in 1975 in Surrey, the artist simply loved to draw, and this was his favourite pass time growing up. He drew and painted numerous portraits and by the time he was sixteen began selling his work and has never looked back.
Ben obtained a Degree at Southampton University in Psychology, and this academic background provides a great platform within his artwork for understanding how certain technical elements work best. Pursuing a career in theory, the artist specialized in the field of Autism, allowing children aid in helping to achieve and overcome difficulties they faced with the wider world.
Never far from painting, Ben continued to create unique and exciting works and then progressed to working with oil paints.
Inspired by British coastlines, Payne's work deals with landscapes and dreamy skies and his work are hugely inspired by J.M.W. Turner & James Abbott McNeill Whistler. The quality of his art offers an intricate delicacy, whilst still allowing you to escape and become engrossed in his vivid dream like palette.
The artist remains highly successful and continues to stand out from his contemporaries with the ethics and values he learnt from working alongside young autistic children. His visual language is direct and to the point and yet contains a youthful innocence to them, alike to the many children he has provided therapy for over the past several years.
