Gillan's pieces are often oil on canvas pieces of animals. She tends to crop the original animal image for maximum impact, and then presents it against a background of solid block colour.
Also, Carol slowly builds up her image by over-painting several times, as this allows her to mimic the texture and depth of an animal's coat.
