Without question, the most memorable aspect of Bank’s artwork is how he paints the animal’s eyes, which have a beautiful rich colour and are imbued with intense emotion & a sense of pathos. This is very deliberate by Colin, wanting the eyes to be your focus and the gateway to really connecting with the animal.
So far his limited editions have always been released in pairs and are as follows - by the way his favourite animal is the tiger!
2018 - ‘Face Value’ & ‘Pause For Thought’ - (lion & tiger)
2019 - ‘Mind’s Eye’ & ‘Point Of View’ - (tiger & white tiger)
2020 - ‘Brave Heart’ & ‘Soul Searching’ - (tiger & lion)
2023 - ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ & ‘Face To Face’ - (tiger & lion)
The artist paints somewhat uniquely on aluminium art panels which his first primes with brilliant white & will then experiment with airbrush black and silver paint until is happy with the background. Then using a range of techniques, he will create detail on the panel including incising the surface to show some of the white & using strong colours to create impact – for fantastic artistic results!
We know little about the artist’s background or personal info and I am sure this is not by chance, as his artwork speaks volume about his character.
Unsurprisingly, he is very passionate about wildlife & conservation and this emotion translates into deeply expressive portraits. Even though the art is conceptual, one always seems to feel drawn to the animal and its life & its journey.
He currently resides in Bedfordshire, where he has created a working studio & he has recently been a featured artist on P&O Cruises.
He is active on both Facebook and Instagram
