Released in the same year as 'When We Dream' (2022), but Akiyama uses a much more subtle colour palette for 'The Arrival.'
Blues and whites make up the backdrop of this magnificent scene, along with the white and pink blossom of the various trees, as the artist demonstrates a tour de force of her ‘Sumi-e’ (Japanese brush painting) skill.
You look upon a mountain backdrop, filled with magnificent waterfalls and a lush foreground of cool blue, almost like liquid paint pouring gently from the canvas.
The trees at the bottom look like the softest of white bedding and Danielle finishes off the painting with dabs of pink and small amounts of red. I also notice she has 'flicked' the canvas with white to represent some of the smaller waterfall's spray.
I wonder, is it spring herself who is the arrival?
