Part of The Mad Artist’s series released during the lockdown periods and appropriately called the ‘Dean Martin - Quarantine Collection’ (May 2020).
The tables are turned in 'Lab Rats' as the rat becomes the scientist, and while in the throes of research his large eyes reveal both pathos & his humanity (ironically). I feel the blue background colours give the painting an upbeat feel, and that we are looking at image imbued with light-heartedness.
Perhaps The Mad Artist motivation was to reflect on the mainstream media narrative around the pandemic and use his paintbrush as the most powerful weapon of all, the one that gets you to think for yourself!
