Some news for you, much loved artist Duncan has moved again within the South of England and is spending his time on a farmstead, as continues to take an extended break from painting. The artist, affectionately known but the shortened 'DMAC' remains one of the UK's most popular and elusive nautical artists - his last limited edition canvas print: 'Ocean's Reach' (2019) has Sold Out from the publisher this very day! - 27th August 2020
His popularity increased amazing during the Covid19 crisis of earlier in the year, with people looking to Duncan's work for reminders of brighter tomorrow and the peaceful nature of the British coastline!
In his own words:
"Sailing is a large part of my paintings and my life, I love water and anything to do with water. I try and capture and try and break things down into a format full of energy, full of vibrancy and try and get some of that emotion into the painting but also try and make it very relaxing and calming."
The artist is somewhat of a 'Gallery' recluse and not joining the plethora of fellow artists that appear in 'Gallery appearances' (very popular in the last 5 years): whether that be art events, in stores or even on Cruise Ships!
Duncan used to be based in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, but we have heard he may now be based in the Norfolk region, but I am sure the coast of Scotland remains a constant influence on his work.
MacGregor was born in 1961 and despite growing up in the Midlands, developed a passion for the sea. It is known that the artist spent eighteen months sailing across the Atlantic and around the coast of Britain. He now divides his time between living in his home in the Midlands and living in Scotland.
Taking his inspiration from the surrounding landscape and of course the sea, Duncan is particularly fascinated by the effects of natural light on colour.
His use of colour expertly contrasts the cool yet vibrant shades of sea and sky as they appear in the brilliant light of the sun. Verging on the abstract, his work is characterised by the dense application of richly textured acrylics, which create a sense of spontaneity and unstoppable energy.
Since turning professional, Duncan has enjoyed considerable success across the UK, displaying his work in both galleries and private collections.
