Born and raised in the West Country, Garry Floyd is a talented up-and-coming artist, who has managed to grasp the attention of galleries, from his local in Minehead, Somerset, to the far corners of the UK.
At college, Garry was very talented at both the visual arts and music and he says of his time at the Somerset West Community College art department as "the best of my school years." After this, Gary continued his education by studying a degree in Art and Design at the Somerset College of Art.
His early career saw Gary Floyd living his dream as the drummer in a band The Jackdaws, from Manchester, performing in clubs and bars across the UK and in many Stadiums throughout Europe. On his return from tour in 2006, he was surprised at how well received and how big an audience there was for his artwork.
As a student, Gary worked mostly on large-scale acrylic works but recently started experimenting with pastels and has since been totally converted to the medium, enjoying the contrasts and control pastels offer him with the use of his hands. For a year he was striving to meet the growing demands of the public for original work, so he has recently decided to produce small edition runs of Giclee limited prints and test the water of the current art buying climate.
