Gary Hodges remains one of UK’s most famous wildlife and pencil artists and has had an international following that has spanned over 30 years; he continues to reach new people coming into the art market, who are enamoured and amazed by his unique way of capturing wildlife on paper.
Starting with his very early prints for Greenpeace: 'Green Turtle' and 'Narwhal' both published in 1987, many of his limited edition since then command strong prices on the secondary market, with prices nearing £3,000 and £2,000 respectively being achieved for those two. One of his most sort after limited edition ‘Snow Leopard’ (1993) has changed hands in excess of the £3,000 mark - a feat almost unparalleled in the UK art market.
Gary's loyal following remains not just because you fall in love with his pencil art but because you can also admire his tireless campaigning for wildlife conservation including regular: exhibitions, fundraisers and auctions of his limited edition art and original paintings.
Having long been associated with leading wildlife charities such as the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, Environmental Investigation Agency, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) & the Born Free Foundation, he has himself become an important part of the movement - with Virginia McKenna OBE even writing the forward to his autobiography, the 2014 entitled: ‘Heart & Soul.’
His 'Heart & Soul' six day Charity exhibition in 2016 was his first in over 20 years and Gary was overwhelmed by the support and attendance of so many of his followers. Gary held a private viewing on the first night and an auction of nearly 20 pieces raised a whooping £130,000 for his many charities, an incredible achievement.
He continues to develop his artistic style and 2019 saw the release of his first ever full colour print ‘Pretty In Pink’ and not surprisingly all proceeds went to charity, with Hodges choosing ‘Care4Cats,’ based in Ibiza.
Having has a long successful association with Demontfort Fine Art publishers, who Gary’s work help establish in the marketplace, Hodges decided to become self-published in the late 2000s. He continues to successfully sell his art with his limited editions continuing to sell out due to their high demand.
