Somerville's work is based around his experiences growing up in Glasgow. The artist, born in 1947 strongly reflects on this period in time and produces several characters influenced by his father who introduced Somerville to these figures who would later become an essential subject within his creations.
With no educational or professional art training, Somerville relied solely on his ability to create. It was growing up in the 1950's throughout the industrial period that really shaped the artist's work and allowed him to nostalgically create his ever so popular pieces which are still proving strong today.
He began to paint what he knew and his ability to relate to many others across the border has seen his growing success among the art world. Working in his studio on the east coast of Scotland, in a small fishing village, Somerville continues to paint and produce sculptures. His talent distributes worldwide in the form of his Limited Edition prints.
