...in the coalmines or on the docks.

Definitely a time when men and women worked 12 hour plus shifts and thought nothing of it, a life of hardwork and toil but all in the name of feeding their family and putting a roof over their head;

...they lived in hope of a brighter tomorrow.

Alexander Millar captures perfectly the themes in this expressive painting.

A look back into a long since gone, 'bygone' age, we have a new limited board for Autumn 2013: 'Clocking On, Clocking Off.'

The smallest of nods and non verbal body language is the only thing these 2 men exchange as they pass in the street - one too tired to engage and the other in too much of a hurry to not be late.

As you can see, Alexander is now becoming much looser and more impressionistic in his painting style and its allowing for a more dreamy image of days gone by
