The female Pop and Urban artist known as ‘Inuka’ is a rising star in the UK artworld. In the African language Swahili ‘Inuka’ translates as ‘to evoke’ or ‘get up,’ and this goes some way in explaining the energetic brilliance of her artwork.
She actually started her career in the world of fashion as a photographer & she is clearly talented in both this genre and eye-catching modern artwork; having personally seen a selection of her black and white photographs they are extremely stylish.
Later, Inuka worked inside the studio of an art publishing house (assisting) alongside other upcoming artists in the last decade such as Hue Folk and Lhouette, themselves known under their own monikers! as well being influenced by other artists distributed by the studio, including Stephanie Jacques & Opake One.
In 2020 she decided to ‘go alone’ and great her own bold and signature style paintings and launch under her own banner. Initially her style was simply recreations of cartoon characters from TV and film such as Tom & Jerry, Disney and the Simpsons to name but a few.
Painting them in various situations and guises, her later work has incorporated more graffiti and street art, including rather unique vibrant work painted onto wood panels.
Before settling full time in the art industry, she extensively travelled, using her camera to catalogue patterns, styles and even colours found in each country and giving herself lots of ideas & references for when she would eventually return to the studio & create.
Her recent work included recreation of Tarot cards as large full size paintings, something rather unique in the market, and using hyper colours and multiple reliefs for breathtaking results! She has also painted household pets, such as pets, using stencils and spray paint, so she very clearly is a multi-faceted artist with an emerging talent.
