Queen Of The Waltzer by Jack Vettriano

The original was painted in 2000 and a sister piece also featuring the fairground called 'Birdy' (released as a limited edition 2023) are now in private collections.

A well dressed woman in a leather jacket, red bottoms, jewellery and matching heels, sits on the steps of a waltzer at a fun fair, contemplating. Jack asks us to create the backstory and feel her experience, as the bright primary colours in the background bring light to a relatively dark image.

Scottish born Jack Vettriano gives some of his own thoughts on the pair some years back:

'These paintings are from my memories of the fairground coming to town - the characters who used to run the rides, the tough guys with their tattoos and the hard kind of woman who hung around them.'
