Jennifer releases four fantastic new limited editions for April 2019, three hares (which she lovingly called McHoppers) and one of highland cows...what else!
New for September 2013 we welcome Jennifer Hogwood to our 'stable' of artists. (no pun intended). Jennifer is a curious artist with many interesting facets about herself, her upbringing and indeed her painting style.
**Jennifer short interview in her studio (2014):
Much like other naive artists such as Peter Smith and his 'Impossimals,' Hogwood has named her cow characters 'McMoos' and one could almost image a young child's first attempt at saying 'cow' would come out similar!
Her first appearance or 'Tour' of galleries began in 2014 & into 2015, and we were one of just a handful of galleries to sell her very first Tour Releases - nine zany and hilarious cows art in various fun and frolics!
20th October 2015 sees Jennifer's Autumn Releases, celebrating two years as a published artist with Demontfort Fine Art, with the quick addition in November of the limited edition: Irn Moo (2015), her zany take on the classic fizzy drink Iron-Bru. combining her McMoo character with Scotland's favourite fizzy pop!
Jennifer debuted in the published art world in 2013, with a collection of four limited editions prints - three framed on board (in what would become her signature white frame) and one box canvas edition called: 'Soulmates' and of course all featured her loveable highland 'McMoo' cows.
Born in one of the home counties: Bedfordshire, she grew up with a love & respect for nature & a passion for horse riding meant she spent many hours outdoors. Interestingly, although Jennifer has always enjoyed art and painting, she is a completely self-taught (as are other wildlife artists e.g. the late David Shepherd & 'Dean Martin - The Mad Artist') & has her own particular way of creating each new artwork.
She will start with pencil to sketch and create the artwork and continue to 'build up' the picture detail; once she is happy, only then will she begin to put paint to canvas. Then. layering the paint on in stages and literally building up the colour palate through this method, adding specific colours to try and make each original unique.
Jennifer has also formulated her own particular brown colour which she will use with every original and from this base paint she will blend with other colours before applying - the trick being she knows through experience exactly the finished colour she will create when 'her' brown is mixed with other colours.
Other interesting facts about her style: she actually starts her painting from the animal's nose and then moves outwards in imaginary circles, her animals are given small jewels as eyes and lastly the final stage is to add splashes of white to the picture to almost bring light & life to them.
Today, Jennifer lives in the countryside of Wiltshire and if she needed to show her love of cows anymore, she works inside a converted milking shed on an active farm...surrounded by cows! Jennifer likes being around the various farm animals & livestock and not only does it give her artistic inspiration but she finds it tremendously relaxing and no doubt reminds her of her childhood.
