The ‘Blue Bird’ is the name for the iconic series of record braking vehicles most famously used in the 1930s, to break the world’s land speed record.
Painting this iconic car is often a rite of passage for upcoming artists. JJ’s limited edition clearly depicting the the final ‘Campbell-Railton Blue Bird’ car from the 1933 & 35 runs.
Jack Vettriano’s 'Bluebird Bonneville' painting sold for an unexpected £468,000 at auction in 2007 and perhaps JJ Adams felt it was time for him to throw his paint brush into the mix. The original to this print has already sold, very kindly donated to auction for ‘Help For Heroes’ charity.
Printed onto the limited edition is the location & date: 'Salt Lake, 1935' and with this version of the Blue Bird, Sir Malcolm Campbell captured his record breaking speed of 301 miles per hour.
Did you notice the soothing aqua blue of the car and the wheels in motion having a supersonic feel to them? JJ Adams has also cleverly overlaid a technical drawing above the car and they effortlessly blend into the painted sky, as the warm sun appears just outside of the frame with golden hues beaming down from the left hand side.
The black & white figure of Campbell himself is in the cockpit and in pencil form, mixing the old with a new up to date interpretation by JJ simply called 'Bluebird.’
