Born in Yardley, Birmingham in 1971, artist Orton was always painting even from a young age. Orton use to take his older brother's images, who himself was a gifted artist and imitate his paintings. Studies began at Sheldon Heath Comprehensive school and then onto Birmingham and Manchester colleges of Art. This then progressed Orton's career where he taught at Birmingham for six years in Art.
A new adventure was in Store for Orton and a new opportunity arose for him to take charge of the Joan Miro Centre de Arte and the Baleares International School. This saw his career span for twenty years until that was in 1999, when the artist moved to the US in New York and now splits his time between Florida and the Catskill mountains of New York.
The success of the artist has led to exhibiting in various galleries of New York, Miami, Toronto and Boston. Several awards such as the Washington Square Painting Prize, in which the artist most treasures, have been honoured for his great works.
His subjects of jars fascinate him and after lining them up and studying them for quite some time he found a remarkable quality in his new found subjects.
The idea of becoming more expressive in his photorealistic paintings was a new element in which occupied his workings and his work continued. Painting from photographs, Orton prepares his glass in different situations, perhaps on his porch or kitchen and allows both light and dark to exchange on its objects.
Working from his own dark rooms in order to get the desired affect needed for creating his images, Orton created large prints and still does often as well as using digital photography. The artist works on multiple paintings at any given go as the preparation and time frame required for drying can vary with each image and this continues the drive to add to her collection.
