Inspired by the genre of Romanticism and its impact on art of the 18th and 19th centuries, in his series of new releases Lawrence Coulson draws inspiration from the artistic greats of that era including Corot, Friedrich, and of course Turner.
The romantic era was partly born in reaction to the Industrial Revolution. During this era of the machine that was becoming more and more a part of everyday life, romantic artwork, particularly romantic landscapes offered the viewer an opportunity to escape the realities of the everyday world.
It is this form of escapism that Coulson echoes so wonderfully in this piece. By painting landscapes that are filled with the mesmerisingly warm colours of autumn, you can't help but feel you are there amongst the golden fields.
