Linda extends her popular range of music and art crossover, poignantly picking the Jam's song as the title: 'Little Boy Soldier;' two versions of this limited edition have been released in time for Remembrance Sunday here in the UK:
- 3D Song book version, with the art printed onto wood to make it look like a book cover that has been framed
- Standard giclee print version, much larger and with traditional mounts and framing
The song is taken from the album 'Setting Sons' (November 1979), it remains one of the group’s most critically acclaimed albums.
There are other nods to the losses of war, singer-songwriter Paul Weller had thought of the album’s theme initially about three childhood friends who lose touch but reunite after a war. But it seems the concept was not fully fleshed out and it is unclear which tracks follow the theme, although obviously ‘Burning Sky’ ‘Wasteland’ and ‘Little Boy Solders’ are likely part of the concept.
Also, the album cover art features a photo of ‘St John Ambulance Bearers’ by Benjamin Clemens (created 1919) a free standing small sculpture now in the Imperial War Msueum. Clemens himself has served with both British Expeditionary Force and later with the Royal Army Medical Corps.
