Mackenzie re-visits some of his most beloved themes in this new sculpture release, one of many artworks for 2019, his 30th year as a professional artist.
The blue pylon structure is of course the famous 'Tees Transporter Bridge' in Mackenzie's home town of Middlesbrough.
'With Me Dad' is a sculpture and mini representation of the large 'installation' sculpture Mackenzie unveiled in April 2019 (similarly called ‘Waiting With Me Dad’) placed in his home town of Middlesbrough, at the side of the blue Transporter Bridge featured in the sculpture and what you might have mistaken for electricity pylons!
Read this article about the unveiling and the ‘Infant Hercules’ choir who performed on the day, much to Mackenzie’s delight.
As well as Middleborough, it reminds us of the father son bond so important to Thorpe and the scarf around the boy’s neck (the only colour on the white parian figures) is a cheeky nod to his love of football & perhaps his own team hometown one, Middlesbrough Football Club.
