A few words from Melissa herself:
''I deliberately avoided the formality of studying art at University, as I was not sure I wanted to be part of the large outflow of students at the end of it. In retrospect I think I probably lost out, but I did enjoy early successes as a result!
In my first year as a professional artist, I was commissioned by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which later involved visits to Buckingham Palace and ultimately, a private audience.
This early encouragement led me to other exciting commissions, including portraits of most of the princesses in the royal family of Saudi Arabia, the late socialite Betsy Bloomingdale (1922-2016) & the Consulate General of Los Angeles.
Apart from my portrait work, I have also won awards for my Equestrian paintings, and I am an associate member of the Society Of Equestrian Artists.
I have enjoyed a good presence on UK gallery wall space and I had an exciting exhibitions overseas, one of my first solo exhibitions being in New York in 1997, which was filmed by the BBC. I have also exhibited in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Aspen, Colorado. I have worked directly with the Arts Program at the UCLA Medical, which coincided with my being made an honorary board member of the Art Dealers of America.
During my time in the United States, I was invited to speak on behalf of the British Consulate, and also one of the hosts of an event with the late Ivana Trump, which involved the ‘Spirit of Freedom’ award for Goldie Hawn.''
