Nic Joly's artwork and sculpture have only been available to purchase for 2 short years (since 2012) and the popularity of his unique work is steadily growing.
He views his sculptures as captures of thoughts & emotions to immerse yourself in and to enter their world. Nic purposely makes his people extra small to create feelings of power and voyeurism in the onlooker. The perspective difference is also intended to literally draw you into the figures, their world and to create a connection.
Even the glass around the imagery has symbolic meaning, as though the emotions and the experience are protected and perfectly contained behind the glaze.
Joly is increasing gaining mainstream exposure including national newspapers, such as the Daily Mail and household magazines & he happily lends his images to various online pages.
At the heart of his work is the desire to create a mini universe within the sculptures, to underline both the questions we ask and choices we make daily, juxtaposed against the (at times) insane nature of modern life.
Nic is inspired by the work of two 15th Century figures: Netherlandish painter Hieronymus Bosch & the Flemish painter Pieter Bruegel & I recommend you look at their work and see if you can find for yourself where his inspiration is from.
