Coast Guard by Nigel Hemming

A welcome return to a more classic Nigel Hemming image of a yellow Labrador. OK so why is this classic? With Nigel's focus in recent years on more contemporary style canine art, featuring blank backgrounds and all attention on the dog, you now have an image you can project a story onto once again. I wonder if the Labrador has run ahead of its owner and reached the water's edge, waiting with excitement for them to arrive; as soon as they catch up he can sprint to the next interesting landscape or perhaps he is waiting for the master's nod so he can jump into the sea! This is a beautifully painted piece, a bright & fresh new dog art to add to Nigel's limited edition series, this is produced as a giclee on paper.

Meet this handsome fellow, the yellow Labrador 'Freddie' who is from Llanstinan Kennels in Pembrokeshire (UK) and the original painting was a commission by his owner Lynda. Nigel doesn't often paint yellow labradors, black labs being his most popular subject and so he thought this was a perfect painting to publish as a limited edition; add to this fact that after seeing the painting in the person, many started to enquire if they could buy the print! The background here is Fishguard Bay in Pembrokeshire (UK) & the artist says this is only the second time he has painted an image with the sea in the background. The only other one he recalls is the hugely popular 'Man's Best Friend' (listed on our website) another beautiful painting featuring 2 black labs on the back of a Landover, the setting being the Isle Of Man. That was a charity piece done for the Manx Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Manx SPCA). All in all, this a superb new limited edition featuring an excellent example of the breed & Freddie is a well loved real life dog as well!
