Paul was educated at Gathlaxton Grammar School, Leicester. His artistic talents were recognised at an early stage, and while at school Paul won a national award for one of his paintings.
In 1968 Paul moved to Wolverhampton and in 1977 he became a full-time artist, devoting all his time to painting. Exhibitions were held of his landscape work, but it was not long before his work made way for his figurative studies.
Paul's major influences have been Laurence Alma Tadema and the Victorian figurative artists. These together with a strong impressionist technique that can be detected in his work, combine to create a highly individual style for which he is justly acclaimed both at home and abroad.
He paints mainly in oils, and confesses to an intense passion for his work. His remarkable talent for evoking a mood of tranquillity and sensitive eye for the transient effects of sunlight on water are qualities that set the work of this gifted artist apart.
