Paul's first Superhero themed limited editions where released, featuring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman: 'The Time Is Now' (2018) and Heath Ledger as the irrepressible Joker: 'Call Me Crazy’ (2018) and these have so far proved to be his last nationally distributed limited editions; he remains an in demand original and commission artist.
Born in Birmingham, UK in 1978, Paul Normansell’s depiction of the iconic legends of our time has seen his growing success in the UK as an artist. His depiction of popular culture remains timeless, using his contemporary artistic talent to paint: musicians, fashion icons and movie stars.
The process of creating his art usually involves painted circular movements, which you can see through the recognizable dots on his canvases. Each circle is painted in high gloss enamel onto a sheet of aluminium, giving a contemporary flawless affect and looking like they are straight from the pages of a sleekly polished magazine!
Power, control, patience and attention to detail are all assets in which creates the greatness of an artist’s vision. The dots are painted individually and vary in their size, shape and colour; there is no set rule for Paul when it comes to creating these particular shapes.
The aluminium has to be placed horizontally in order for it to be painted & then dry accurately without bleeding or dripping. This therefore engages Paul’s attention and strength in order to paint at that angle. The artist would require weekly visits to a back specialists due to the angle he was painting at but he soldiered on, largely because his need to paint & fulfil his artistic vision is so motivating to him.
His artwork is becoming increasing popular, with many celebrity followers. In 2008, Paul was approached by Brandon Flowers of US rock band ‘The Killers’ to create artwork for the new album 'Day & Age'. The art was awarded best album cover of the year by Rolling Stones Magazine!
Now one of the most recognizable contemporary artists, Paul continues to exhibit & showcase his work including in the UK, Japan, Australia and the United States.
