This is one of four pieces from the new ‘Rebecca Lardner - On The Waterfront - Collection' (July 2023).
It depends on when you grew up, but I remember a children’s TV series called ‘Cockleshell Bay’ from the 1980s about two children who moved to the bay and this is exactly as I pictured the rest of their world; who knows perhaps Rebecca was inspired by the series!
Incidentally the Puffin In and that little scene on the left foreground has been releases as the ‘The Puffin In – Sculpture,’ a beautiful addition to her sculpture range.
With ships moored in the little cove, families out for walks and people walking their dogs on the beach, overlooked by multi-coloured housing in the background and a lighthouse, more houses and the famous ‘The Puffin In’ on the foreground.
There is so much attention to detail by Rebecca: steps going up from the beach to the street, the little waves by the boats, TV aerials on the houses and even bunting on some of the houses - perhaps from some recent street celebration in the bay?
Rebecca has been called the modern LS Lowry over the years and it is easy to see how she was given the moniker, her immense skill and talent at these mini-size (seaside!) worlds is simply amazing.
