You can see how the use of artificial light situates perfectly on the female's skin, thus reflecting a radiant glow; this is particularly referred to on the lower parts of her legs to the soles of her feet.

She appears to be deeply lost in thought and with this in mind, each viewer can delve into their own opinions and story behind her fixed gazed look.

The bedding and sheets look so real, it makes you almost want to grab out and feel their texture, inviting the viewer towards the board.

A great understanding for painting texture has allowed this image to work so successfully and places Hefferan as one of the best among his contemporaries.

Perhaps my favourite piece in this current series. Look at the drama and tension created with the theatrical, staged backdrop.

I love how the artificial use of light creates emphasis and highlights on everything that is in view to us as the spectator.

Draw your eye to the subtle specs of light which hit the woman's face, emphasising her delicate features.
