Growing up, Yasmin has always shown a keen interest in African wildlife, spending much of her childhood creating and crafting various materials. Her keen interest in this subject stems from her family's roots in Kenya. When the artist was seven she received her first set of oil paints and has never looked back since.
Inspirational tutors have played a huge part in the artists life as she studied at Cumbria college of Art, Institute of Art and Design in Birmingham and then finally onto Glasgow School of Art.
The artist has been professionally painting over the last fifteen years and simply paints what she loves. Her work is direct and straight talking and the passion she has for her subjects is clearly evident within her canvases.
Her work features in private collections worldwide and her desire to paint is her inspiration for the wonders she creates. Light also plays a significant role within her works as this truly allows the beauty of her subjects to come to the forefront of her pictorial space.
Zebra's feature in several of the artists work and their form, posture, coats and bodies are something which Yasmin loves to capture. This translates perfectly into the contemporary world as the clear vision and lines provide a fantastic narrative to translate to its viewer. The artist often visits safari parks or travels abroad to capture numerous photographs of the creatures and is fascinated by them each time she pictures the creatures.
Looking through her photographs provides the inspiration for the next canvas and often the artist conjures a title in her head and then begins to create around the title. Starting with the background first the artist then begins to roughly sketches her creatures in oil paint before layering the image with wonderful brush strokes and marks in order to capture her animals.
