Rory Hancock, known in some circles as 'Ro-Han.' joins an ensemble of recently published artists who explores societal trends such as wealth, fashion and materialism, but his scintillating artwork is pushing him to the front of the pack.
Artist Keith McBride & The Mad Artist - Dean Martin, debuting with us in January 2020 & March 2019 respectively, are apropos examples of artists exploring the same themes.
Born in 1989, Rory hails from Swansea in Wales and graduated from De Montfort University (before coincidentally signing with Demontfort Fine Art publishers), honing his artistic skills and gaining honours in Fine Art and Graphic Design.
Unsurprisingly, like many of his contemporaries, he is inspired by Andy Warhol's take on capitalism, the media, consumerism and the law of unlimited wants - concepts which are still firmly on the agenda of many artistic commentators.
One can go deeper with the interpretation of Rory's work; accepting he is lives in and is part of the cultural narrative of consumerism, media and celebrity, he hopes his artwork will be a journal of its pervasiveness and the lack of critical thinking that surrounds it.
The artist takes his lead from fashion houses and fashion trends & magazines, sketching out ideas before he begins his photo realistic paintings. Like hyper realistic artists Mark Davies and Monica Vincent the results are visually incredible but these artists are versed in using computer software to enhance their arts but Rory, like Steven Townsend, paints entirely by hand with the use of oils.
He has had acclaimed exhibitors in the UK and in Deli in the Stainless Steel Gallery and had a breakout exhibition at part of the 'Vermillionaire' event at 71a Gallery in London in 2016.
Rory is also an accomplished photographer and will use models and objects to prepare for his next painting and he is influenced by photographers: such as the French pair Pierre et Gilles and American David LaChapelle.
His art portfolio also includes large installations that featuring video and sculpture, as well as traditional art and he also trained under a well established British artist before launching in his own right.
Rory can also be found on Instagram.
