Moira Shearer (1926-2006) is the model in this limited edition (in all three poses) and she was a British ballet dancer & film actress, internationally famous during her career.
Star of the film 'The Red Shoes' (1948), which was arguably the most popular ballet film ever made until 'The Black Swan' (2010) starring Natalie Portman.
Incidentally, we have a pair limited editions for sale also called 'Kay Boyce - The Black Swan' series by another contemporary UK ballet artist.
This is the limited edition print, produced from the oil painting of Moira Shearer in three different poses which Russell Flint produced for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1948 after having seen the film 'Red Shoes.'
Russell Flint said of his subject: 'I was brutal in keeping her standing in difficult poses. Her patience was heroic.'
Frost and Reed published this with the bracketed original title 'Three Studies of Moira Shearer,' under which it appeared in the Royal Academy Exhibition.
Released in 1948, this is a very rare signed limited edition by Russell Flint, now over 70 years old.
