Were Off To See The Wizard by Sarah Graham

Sarah Graham is an artist that describes herself as a 'big kid at heart' and is therefore drawn to sweets & toys when finding subjects for her artwork.

In this limited edition canvas modelled on the childhood classic film 'The Wizard of Oz' (1939), Sarah has found figurines of the characters and then hand painted a scene with the toys to create a wonderful homage to the iconic movie.

By using toys as she does here, Sarah is able to play on the canvas using vivid colour palettes, and at the same time maintain her style as a hyperrealist painter.

She often stages photography sessions of the objects/toys in her own studio and once she is happy with her chosen image (photograph), she begins the painting process.

However, the final painted image often varies from the photo, as Sarah sees it as natural for changes to occur throughout the painting process.

It is also extremely important to her that the finished piece looks like a painting and not simply an enhanced photograph, while of course using vivid and attention grabbing coloured paints!
