Choosing what we wish to portray or hide from others is essential to White's practice. In this case he shows the many layers and depth each of us have inside and what side we chose to let out to others.
Whilst reading erotic literature, no doubt, the subject lays her head back whilst keeping a firm grip on the page she is up to and appears to be letting her guard down, portraying a side of herself that she wouldn't ever normally show.
The exaggeration in the size of her hand makes her coffee cup appear almost miniscule and this shows the distinct manner in which Todd White works and certainly makes him innovative and unique within the contemporary art world today.
