Wendy McBride has always had an interest in art and design, but not until her youngest son started school did she decide to return to her studies and complete a degree in English, Philosophy & Art at Marjon College, Exeter (now Plymouth Marjon University).
After graduation, she enjoyed teaching, painting and creative writing. As her artistic profile increased, she would paint a series of commissions for various hotels, while at the same time writing anthologies of poetry!
With a constant demand for her artwork, as well as her own one-woman exhibitions, Wendy eventually transitioned into a full time professional artist.
Signing with a national UK art publisher, she released a series of best selling seascape limited editions which have since sold out everywhere; small and with soft colours, these landscapes images would often feature blue colours & water, and really showcased her skill to a wider audience.
Having lived near the sea for most of his life, Wendy delights in the subtle changes in the oceans, with ‘light’ and ‘space’ also the focus of her soft impressionist work.
She is inspired by the works of great artists such as Turner, Monet, Rothko and Hodgkin for their evocative creations. She has experimented extensively with various media and is always trying to incorporate a translucent quality and a sense of immediacy within her canvas imagery.
Wendy distinctive seascape images have been described as ‘clean’ and ‘fresh’ but they are much more than this; each of them has an emotionally charged, almost hypnotic quality that is nothing short of charming. Once she was nationally distributed into UK galleries, she received rave reviews and customers would eagerly collect her work, awaiting New limited editions and originals each season.
She is now based in Devon, UK.
